What does a bathroom renovation cost in 2026?

All guide prices in one place: complete renovation, toilet, walk-in shower and partial renovation — plus the factors that decide where your job lands in the band.

A complete bathroom renovation in 2026 costs on average € 5,000 to € 25,000; most renovations land between € 8,000 and € 15,000. That wide band is not vagueness but the nature of the job: a small bathroom with the same layout and basic fixtures sits at the bottom, a large bathroom with a new layout and luxury finish at the top.

The biggest price driver is the pipework. If the layout stays the same, the installer reuses the existing water and drainage points. If the shower moves or a freestanding bath lands in a new spot, that means extra chasing, demolition and installation work — and in older homes, renewing outdated pipes and wiring often comes on top. The finish level also weighs heavily: between basic fixtures and custom work sits easily a factor of 2 to 3.

Smaller jobs have their own bands: a toilet renovation costs € 1,250 to € 4,500, a walk-in shower € 1,500 to € 5,000 and a partial renovation — for instance just the shower corner or the tiling — € 1,500 to € 7,500. Replacing individual fixtures starts from around € 200.

Always request several quotes and set them against the price index. Don't just look at the total: check whether demolition, debris removal, fixtures, tiles and the waterproofing are included, and whether there is one point of contact for all trades. The cheapest quote without those items is rarely the cheapest on the final invoice.
